Where does the money go... family assistance for August 2014

Family Assistance for August 2014.…. It is because of your generosity and continued support that we were able to financially assist 2 families last month totaling just over $2,500, in addition we donated $5,000 in funds to Research last month and we have provided over $32,000 of financial assistance to our families so far this year. Our financial assistance varies each month depending on our families request. we feel it is important to help out the family or families with whatever their specific need is at the time. Although we work directly with the Resource specialists at Boston Children's Hospital / The Jimmy Fund Clinic and Hasbro Children's Hospital, we also get applications from people that have learned of us online through the DIPG Registry, Social Media as well as Social Workers and Resources Specialists from other hospitals. Last month we helped a 16 yr old boys family from Hyde Park, MA who was referred to us by one of the Resource Specialists at Boston Children's Hospital to pay their past due excise taxes so mom could renew her drivers license and get her son to and from treatments. They were having to rely on Mass Health Transportation which proved to be extremely difficult. These are things most people take for granted. We also assisted a 13 yr old girl's family from Providence, RI with their mortgage payment. They were referred to us by the Clinical Social Worker at Hasbro Children's Hospital. We are told that she is going to need to be transferred to Boston for inpatient Rehab therapy following her brain surgery. Childhood Brain Cancer/tumors are devasting and help is always needed for families who are battling. They deserve to spend every single minute being with their precious child and not having to worry about day to day bills piling up. We can't thank you all enough for helping us help others. You can learn a little more about our children by visiting our photo gallery tab on our website - we have a p! hoto album dedicated to our brave warriors! Funding Research ... Last month we were able to do a matching grant of $5,000 to Evan's Crew PMC Team which supports The Evan T. Mandeville DIPG Research Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. Evan was a fun spirited little boy who was diagnosed with DIPG in the November after Cory. He lost his more than courageous battle a year to the day of his diagnosis on November 13, 2012, just 3 months after Cory passed away. He was 11 years old. Like us Tim and Aimee, Evan's parents have become very passionate with their cause, which is specific to funding research for DIPG. Sadly this bond we share as parents of a child who battled DIPG is like none other. We understand how unforgiving this disease is and what it means to find a cure. Imagine if we could find a cure for the most difficult to treat and devastating brain tumor of all what it would mean for the advancement in all cancer/tumor treatments. Together we can make a difference.

Our first annual golf tournament was a huge success. We can not thank The Pines Restaurant and Pub enough for hosting and organizing this event. We would like to say a special thank you to the golf committee members in addition to me and Jim there were Kerri Allard, Ron Constantineau, Dennis Peloquin and Derek Falardeau, without them non of this would have been possible. Thank you to our many sponsors. Also to our son Nicholas Gaudet and nephew Derek Falardeau for their hard work in creating the graphics for all of the sponsor signs and Nicholas for our golf flyers, banners and website stuff. I will do an entire update on our Golf Tournement after all the totals are in and we can share exactly what a success it was.

Thank you for helping us help families with children battling brain tumors/ cancer. Without your continued support we would not be able to do what we do.

Sincerely,

Teresa & Jim Gaudet, Co Founders

Although we work directly with the Resource specialists at Boston Children's Hospital / The Jimmy Fund Clinic and Hasbro Children's Hospital, we also get applications from people that have learned of us online through the DIPG Registry, Social Media as well as Social Workers and Resources Specialists from other hospitals. Where does the money go.. Family Assistance for June

Family Assistance for June 2014.…. It is because of your generosity and continued support that we were able to financially assist 6 families last month totaling just over $4,200 and we have provided over $26,000 of financial assistance to our families so far this year. Our assistance varies each month depending on our families request. we feel it is important to help out the family or families with whatever their specific need is at the time. Although we work directly with the Resource specialists at Boston Children's Hospital / The Jimmy Fund Clinic we also get applications from people that have learned of us online through the DIPG Registry, Social Media as well as Social Workers and Resources Specialists from other hosptials. Last month we helped a 7 year old little girl's family from Texas with a Walmart gas & food gift card. We helped a 5 yr old boy's family from NH with a car payment (Jimmy Fund Clinic). A 4 yr old's family from West Springfield, MA with their rent. (Jimmy Fund Clinic) A 12 yr old little girl, another family from the Jimmy Fund Clinic with their mortgage payment. A little 7 yr old boy's family from New Bedford with a market basket gift card and utility bill.(Jimmy Fund Clinic) We were also able to help a family with rent, they were referred to us by a social worker at Children's Hospital South Texas. Sadly this young man lost his courageous battle with brain cancer. Unfortunately many of the children that we have assisted have already earned their angel wings. Childhood Brain Cancer is devastating and help is always needed for families who are battling. They deserve to spend every single minute being with their precious child and not having to worry about day to day bills piling up. We can't thank you all enough for helping us help others. Erial Martin Senior Scholarship Recipient Erial Martin's Senior PageAriel Martin was selected by the Guidance Dept on our behalf and is the recipient of the $500.00 Cory Edward Gaudet Memorial Scholarship which was presented at BMR's Senior Awards Night. I have also included a picture of her year book page - take note of her very first quote! It truly means so much to us to know that Cory continues to inspire people.  Congrats Ariel!

Family Assistance for May 2014.…. It is because of your generosity and continued support that we were able to financially assist 5 families last month totaling just over $3500. Our assistance varies each month because we feel it is important to help out the family or families with whatever their specific need is at the time. Last month we helped a family from Texas with a Walmart gas gift card so she could get her daughter to a much needed MRI at a hospital over 400 miles away from her home. We are happy to report that her tumor is stable. We had the pleasure of being able to give a 5 yr old boy from NH a very special birthday party which included a place to hold it, all the decorations and favors, a beautiful cake and his dream car! I have had the honor of meeting him and his Mom a couple of times now at the Jimmy Fund Clinic in Boston and they truly are so loving & kind. I will be posting pictures of his party in it’s own album soon. We have also helped a family from South Carolina with rent, a car payment and utility bill. A family from South Texas via their social worker at the hospital with a Valero gas gift card and Walgreen gift card and lastly a family from West Springfield, MA, who I hope to meet at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, with a Stop n Shop gift card, a rent payment and a Mobil gas gift card. My plan is to visit the Jimmy Fund Clinic at least once a month. Spending time with families and meeting with our Resource Specialists that keep us connected with the families that are most in need. It truly is a special place. This week I took my niece Crystalle with me, as she has shown interest in volunteering there. In her own words “Visiting The Jimmy Fund today was a truly humbling experience. It is amazing to see these little kids smile through their chemo treatments and play with you no differently than any other 5 or 7 year old would. If you ever think you are having a bad day, go and visit those children. They have been dealt an absolute crap hand but are still the happiest little beings! Truly eye opening and I can't wait to go back again”

Why do we support the family financially? Because when you have to spend countless hours in clinic, the hospital or even at home taking care of your sick child you are missing work. Income decreases but expenses continue to increase. You now have the added expenses of traveling to and from treatments, parking, food while in clinic or the hospital, co pays and over the counter medicines are just a few examples. Let’s not forget that although life as they knew it stopped on the day of diagnosis, their day to day bills such as rent/ mortgage, utilities, groceries did not. They still need to get paid and from someone who has been there, they are not the greatest priority, making your child happy and trying to get them healthy again is your greatest priority. So please know that your donations are so greatly needed and appreciated.

I will be posting a 5K Update very soon … Sorry for the delay but we were still getting information put together. Jim and I will be attending the Senior Awards Night at BMR tonight and I would like to include the recipient of the 3rd and final Cory Edward Gaudet Memorial Scholarship for 2014.

Thank you for helping us help children battling brain cancer. Big Hugs, Much Love & God Bless

Teresa & Jim Gaudet
